This picture was brought to my attention on Reddit from a 1924 Swan’s Down Flour booklet by Helen E. Farquhar. This is the same cake, below left, that is in the 1925 Simplified Cooking by Anna J. Peterson–the first person with a media cooking show (radio). I wondered why the same cake photo? Quick research showed that Mrs. Farquhar, like Mrs. Peterson, worked as a food demonstrator for the People’s Gas Company in Chicago. Anna Peterson demonstrated cake-making and Mrs. Farquhar demonstrated decorating them.
