Etiquette of the Cheese Box – Janet McKenzie Hill – International Milk Products

This recipe book [reddit] written by Janet McKenzie Hill [posted on reddit by r/VintagePaperEyeCandy] advertises cheese boxes “For your yacht” “For touring in your automobile” and for “After the Theater.”

The company, International Milk Products Co. was incorporated in 1906 in Cooperstown, upstate New York and sold various dairy products. The high-end cheese boxes described in the booklet, published 1906 – 1914, were probably similar to online gift boxes today. The business’s main product was evaporated milk — at the time of this publication only canned evaporated milk was sold at the grocers. Fresh milk was delivered via daily milk men to the home. Nestle bought International Milk Products Company in 1918, owning it for about three years before selling it back to the farmers supplying the milk, members of a dairymen’s co-operative.
