The electric iron was invented in 1882 and improved before 1904. An iron with adjustable temperature control became available in 1927. The electric vacuum cleaner was invented in 1901, but it was horse-drawn and used as a commercial service. The electric vacuum cleaner for home use was invented in 1908. The electric washing machine was also invented in 1908, but hanging clothes out on a line continued for over 25 years until the electric clothes dryer was invented in 1935. In 1913 the electric dishwasher was invented, but it had limited distribution until 1930 when it was marketed by Hotpoint. The garbage disposal entered the scene in 1927, first called the electric pig, before a GE version was widely distributed in 1935.
